Several years ago I started searching out different architect’s work…I was fascinated by what I was seeing in the modern buildings in Japan and some of the European countries. Now when we are going to a new place, I activity search out my favorite architects’ work and look for others that I have yet to be exposed to.
I had been on the lookout for Zaha Hadid’s work for several years. This summer my search was rewarded at the Vitra Design Center in Germany where I saw her first commissioned work, a firehouse. I left the building wondering how someone thought in such unusual ways…it was way beyond my imagination. (Also at Vitra were several of my other favorite architects… but that is a story for another day.) Staying in Seoul gave me an opportunity to see the DDP, another one of Hadid’s buildings. Although I always love the outside, it is how the exterior design affects the inside that holds the most fascination for me. But on seeing the exterior…start to imagine what the inside might look like….
I love photographing ceilings and stairways. Hadid’s DDP didn’t disappoint. .
Pianos frequented the various areas around the exterior of the building..some had little children banging on them, others had people playing classical pieces…somehow I missed those photos… But I did capture the interesting chairs placed outside, although they were difficult to photograph.
