2002

Merry Christmas 2002,

Every year when I sit down to write this letter I wonder how to make this something other than boring or mundane.  I don’t usually succeed, so this year I’ll attempt an executive summary of the events of 2002.

Major events –

Timothy graduated high school.  This fall Jean and Hugh listened to the first school buses stopping and starting in our neighborhood and realized this is the first year in almost 20 that we don’t have a child in school – it filled us with a mixture of joy and sadness.

Minor events –

We traveled a great deal this year.  We all went to the Bays of Hualtuco in Mexico for a week.  It was incredibly relaxing.  Every day at 11:30 a wonderful woman named Rebecca served us fresh mango margaritas in the pool.  Everyone should have a Rebecca, at some time in there life.

In July Hugh and I went to NYC to visit Julie and celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.  Hugh loved being back in a big city – so much so he went to see Julie in October and spend more time in the Big Apple.

I learned again that most cities overwhelm me and that I need a break from city life. So in September Julie and I went on a bike trip through Prince Edward Island.  We spent about 6 days on a bike and traveled about 250 miles.  I hope to do another trip in 2003 – it was a perfect break for me from the daily life of Phoenix.

Tim is working part-time at Border’s Bookstore and part-time in my office.  I imagine in the next year, he will figure out a path that suits him.  He likes to cook and is thinking about cooking school.

Hugh still works for CIGNA and is going to nights in January – hopefully, I’ll see more of him.

My office continues to grow, we’ve hired some more people, remodeled our space and looking to add a new computer system next week.  I love having a business!

Looking ahead to 2003 –

Julie is leaving NYC next week and coming to Phoenix for a month.  She is entering Richmond school in London in January to complete a degree in international business.

No trips currently planned, although it is difficult to imagine that we won’t visit Julie in London.  I would love to do another bike trip – would any of you be interested?  I’m anxious to do a trip in France or Italy.

Wishes for Christmas and the New Year

Peace, prosperity, laughter, good health and good cheer!
