Saint Bartholomew the Great Church

Today we did some wandering…stopping at Saint Bartholomew the Great Church.  The church is the oldest parish church in London, built in 1123, celebrating 900 years come the new year.  We arrived in time for the Thursday mid-day concert but decided to press on with our itinerary and take in a concert on a different day.

Next up was taking the tube to John Lewis so Jean could look at fabric.  The excitement was taking the NEW Elizabeth line… our first jounrey on the new line which opened in May 2022.  New info…we can take the Elizabeth line directly to Heathrow Terminal 5, no more changing at St. Pancras station!

On to John Lewis for fabric shopping which was a bust, the store had much less fabric than the last time we visited, but did find some favorite knitting needles.  We stopped for lunch at the John Lewis cafeteria, one of Hugh’s favorites before heading on to Liberty and more fabric shopping.

Liberty, as always, has lovely silk and cotton.  I was looking for wool, so didn’t buy any.  The colors and patterns are floating around in my head, so we may need another stop there before leaving.

We came back to the flat for an afternoon rest before heading out to the theater.

Hampstead Theatre had a production of Mary, the story revolving around Mary Queen of Scots. starring Douglas Henshall, from Shetland.  Hugh had purchased tickets a month ago, so we had seats in the B row, second from the stage.  Wonderful evening!

We ended the evening with a trip to the Tesco Express to pick up some late night snacks.  Settled into the flat with a beer and cheese.  A wonderful end to a wonderful day.
