After so long without traveling, we decided in Summer of 2021 to do a road trip up through Nevada, over into California up to Oregon and then east to Missoula. We would spend a few days in Missoula, take a couple of days for photography with Barb Eddie and then drive home a more eastern route through Utah.
Along the was we would see some places we had never been through before.. Death Valley and Lake Tahoe, and stop in places we liked.. Florence Oregon and along the Columba River.
We learned a great deal along the way… one Death Valley in August doesn’t offer much in the way of great scenery, the Columbia River is very busy in August.
Our first night we spent in Lone Pine California. We found a great food truck for dinner…
After leaving Lone Pine we drove on to Susanville CA. We knew there were fires around the area but as we got closer to the town, the more nervous we became. After arriving at our hotel, and finding out the only guests were firefighters, we decided it really wasn’t wise to stay so we drove on to Oregon. The closest hotel was in Klamath Fall another 3 hours away. We had driven almost 6 hours to Susanville, so it was going to be a long drive.
But from the photos taken near Susanville…you can see just how close we were to the wildfires.
From Klamath Falls we drove to visit the factory that was building our new kitchen cabinets. I got to meet the man that I can been corresponding with for months.
From there it was on Cottage Grove to visit friends, Lyle and Pat. We needed to celebrate Lyle’s new found freedom…called retirement. We got to see the lovely new home they had built and Pat and I got to talk about sourdough bread baking which be both had been working to perfect.
