Tsutenkaku Tower In Shinsekai area of Osaka

This tower dates back to the early twentieth century, but the original was destroyed by fire in 1943.  Japan used the steel from disassembling ruins for the war effort.  This tower was rebuilt in the 1950 and opened to the public in 1956.

Many of the local markets in this area are going away as more people shop in supermarkets.  Many stalls in this market were closed.

RIGHT:  Our guides have told us about a Japanese woman’s saying about husbands – they need to be healthy, good providers and absent!  One guide told us she had the perfect husband, he was never around.  It is surprising to hear how open they are about this. 

The Japanese men gathered for a game in the afternoon, for a game of shogi, the Japanese chess game. They pay so much per hour to come and play, the women want the men out of the house, according to our guide.
