Tough day to hear the stories of the Khymer Rouge’s reign of terror, but oh so necessary. The bones, clothes and teeth are still coming out of the mass graves of the Killing Fields. Our guides father was executed there, so this is a very personal place for him to visit. The tree where children […]
Every piece of the lotus gets used. The fiber in the stems is used to produce fabric, and the remainder is used for paper or to produce vegan leather. The green fruit is eaten, and the dried fruit is used for prayer beads and jewelry; the flowers are used for tea. The fabric is softer […]
I was up early to walk up a mountain in the dark for a meditation service After the meditation, we stood while the monks tossed lotus petals to bless us. Then we were treated to sunrise. Great way to start our last day in Siem Reap.
I was curious where our hotel got all the lotus blossoms. Not far from Siem Reap are lotus farms. My driver found a way to drive me to them so I could photograph.

Everyone was so friendly and didn’t mind me intruding on their mornings. The man cutting grass shocked me, as he spoke English to […]
Great evening at the Phare Circus. Will post more videos of this amazing performance
We spent our morning exploring the floating villages of the Tonle Sap. Children learn to drive a boat at a very young age to navigate to and from school.
We’ve had little time to capture images of everyday life, which is my favorite part of travel. These were a few quick clicks.
Arrived at a lovely hotel in Siem Reap, the Jaya House.
On to Cambodia today.
Although my camera photo didn’t capture it, the sun was red at sunrise. The farmers have started to burn their fields, which may have contributed to the beautiful color.
The ceramic jars are the dowry, which I believe the man gives to the woman’s family. I need to check that today with my guide. The man’s backpack carries his lunch into the field.
The Katu women, one of many ethnic groups in Laos, are known for their backstrap weaving. They sit on the ground bending over the loom to weave. I purchased two pieces, the lower photo shows the weaver holding the piece she made that I purchased. After buying a few pieces, I was invited into a […]
Yesterday was a day rich in photographic opportunities, these are a few that I captured with my phone. I’m excited to review those from my camera. This man hand forged 4 to 5 pieces a day. The round cylinder he is hammering onto is a used bomb casing from the Vietnam War. Laos was heavily […]
