DRIVE TO AGRA

I don’t know how to describe Delhi traffic adequately.  I told our driver that no one paid any attention to the white lines marking the lane. His response was, “oh, those are just suggestions!” And not only are the white lines suggestions, so is the direction of the lane.  It was not uncommon for traffic in one direction to be moving in the opposite direction at the edge.  It was mind-boggling.

The roadway was more than just cars and traffic; highway entrances were used as clotheslines, and the narrow edge of the busy roads was reserved for peddlers selling fruit and vegetables. And to add to the chaos, there were the tuk-tuks, tractors, and motorcycle drivers, who clearly had different rules, as anything goes. And then you can add in the not-so-occasional cow.

So our trip out of Delhi was memorable.

Along the way to Agra, we came across a camel driver, and we stopped to take some photos.

The photos above are from Agra. The city is undergoing beautification, with murals being painted on the sides of the roads; this is just one of the ones we saw. The other photos are from our hotel room, showing the chaos that characterizes Indian traffic. While this was milder than what we experienced in Delhi, you can see a variety of vehicle types in these images.
