Hike to Lava Tower, altitude 15,180 feet. Projected hiking time was untold; it took me 4 hours. We hiked into the alpine desert zone. We would spend two nights at Lava Tower.

Of all the sunsets I have seen, this one remains a favorite. It was so unusual for me to be above the clouds as the sun was setting, except in an airplane. This remains one of the highlights of the climb for me.
